2021 - Year in Review

First off, I wanted to share that I moved all my photos to Smugmug (bryanwebb.smugmug.com). From Facebook, to Google Photos, to Flickr, every single album I’ve shared since 2013 will be found there.

2021 was a year to remember. It was the year Ashley and I bought our first home together and it was the year we got engaged!

Shenandoah | Blue Ridge Parkway | Great Smoky Mountains - October 2020

My fourth annual trip with my friend, Reed Cabral, was a busy one. In five days, we flew to Baltimore, visited Shenandoah National Park, drove the entire Blue Ridge Parkway, and ended the trip at the Great Smoky Mountains. The scenery was amazing with the Fall colors hitting their peak.

The Blue Ridge Parkway was the highlight for me. 400+ miles and over 10 hours of driving, the views were spectacular. Reed and I stopped at no less than 50 of the overlooks.

At the Smoky mountains, one of the greater joys was meeting fellow photographers during a sunset on the highest peak at the park. Talking with others who share the same passion is one of the best parts of photography for me. Shoutout to Jeff Shen, one of the people I met on the trip. Hopefully we can meet up again in the future.

Of course, the dangers of Covid-19 loomed and I quarantined for two weeks after I arrived back home. Really hope things go back to normal in the near future.

Oregon + Washington - August 2020

I can’t believe it’s already September…Nine months into the year and this is only the second time updating my blog. My excuse is a combination of laziness and lack of photos. Before my trip, I couldn’t remember the last time this year I picked up my camera. In these strange times, event gigs are non-existent and my motivation to shoot, even just for fun, is at an all time low.

Despite all this, Ashley and I were able to book a trip to the Pacific Northwest recently. It was a trip unlike any with dealing with Covid-19. We were extremely careful throughout the trip and quarantined afterwards for two weeks. The trip itself was five days long, starting in Seattle, taking us to the Oregon Coast, through Portland to Mount Hood, and finally, to Mount Rainier. We spent hours messing with our itinerary and it turned into an incredible journey. We highly recommend the trip if you’re considering exploring the Pacific Northwest!

Promotion = New Watch

I received a promotion to start the new year, and what better way to celebrate than gifting myself a new watch? I’ve always liked black and gold bezels, and this Seiko SRPB55 caught my eye. The watch is otherwise known as the “Seiko Samurai”. The watch came with a black silicone strap, which I liked, but ended up switching out for a Crown & Buckle Marina leather strap.

Also included in this gallery are pictures of a few other watches in my collection: (1) Kemmner Tonneau (2) Gruen Precision Quartz Day-Date (my Lolo’s watch) (3) Casio AE1200WHD-1AV

Buckhorn BBQ Fundraiser, Baptism + More

After having four gigs so close to each other in the Summer, I’ve noticed that the Fall has resulted in me not taking my camera out as much. I’ve had fewer paid gigs, but I’m not complaining. Sometimes it’s nice not having to lose out on weekend plans because of gigs. The photos in this post are from the past few weeks. I’ve kept busy with shooting a fundraiser, visiting my grandmother on her birthday, celebrating Halloween, and playing golf.

Four(!!!) Gigs

It’s been a busy past two months for me, but I think things are finally settling down. As a brief summary, here’s a list of the things that have kept me active: (1) I traveled out of the country for the first time (2) I took on more responsibility at work (3) I relaxed on the beach and enjoyed the last of the summer’s heat (4) I photographed four events! Booking four gigs in a short time span is not the norm for me, but they were all great learning experiences. I was faced with some tough decisions at different times where I had to make subtle adjustments. I also invested in some new lighting gear that I was able to try out for the first time. Looking back at these albums, I love some of photos I was able to capture. Now that I’ve gotten more comfortable with my new gear, I think I can work on being more creative with my posing. What’s next for me? Editing photos from my Philippines trip (two months later…)

Ashley's Graduation from the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing!

My girlfriend, Ashley, graduated with a bachelor of science in nursing from Loyola! She’s taking the NCLEX soon, and I know she’s going to do great. Soon she’ll be done studying and working at a hospital near you! We took these photos last month, before her graduation ceremony. We took advantage of the blooming flowers at the Chicago Botanical Gardens. Ashley has accomplished a lot in the past few years and all the hard work is paying off. Proud of you!

Holi

Two posts in one week?! Especially after a long layoff? Well lucky for you, I took some fun pictures that I couldn’t wait to show off. This past weekend, my friend, Vishesh, hosted a Holi party. Holi is a Hindu festival, popularly known as the Indian “festival of spring”, the “festival of colors”, or the “festival of love”. Colored powder is thrown at friends, family, and nearby strangers, resulting in rich, vibrant clothes and skin. I had some photos in mind that I wanted to capture, so I brought my camera and lighting equipment. I experimented with some gels on my flashes, and the results speak for themselves. I am super happy with how the photos came out. I only wish I could’ve taken more. Next year!

Baby Gender Reveal

It’s a boy!! My girlfriend’s sister and her husband are having a baby and they announced the gender with friends and family. Confetti cannons were shot at the same time, revealing blue confetti. Suspense was lifted and replaced with raised arms and a rush of excitement. Both the mom and dad are skaters and already can’t wait to get some hockey skates on their little guy.

2019 Synchro Illinois

This past weekend I knocked the dust off my camera and took photos of the 2019 Synchronized Skating Illinois competition. It was my first time attending an ice skating competition, and it was a fun experience. My girlfriend has been ice skating her whole life, so it was only a matter of time before I got familiar with the sport. I hope to frequent more competitions and shows!

Fall Festivities

With the colder weather rushing in, it’s about time for my camera to go into hibernation. I take it out every now and then, but not nearly as much as when the weather allows for t-shirts and shorts. Recently, I went apple picking and pumpkin carving with my girlfriend and her family. The pumpkin carving was especially fun as each person dressed up for Halloween. My girlfriend and I dressed up as 90s aerobics instructors. Think Richard Simmons and Jane Fonda. I hope you enjoy the pics!

Watches - Junkers 6060-5 + Seiko 7002-7000

I grew up outside of Elgin, IL, where my family had many close connections to its famous watch factory. Now, I am building my knowledge about watches and am starting my own collection. My first watch, other than a quartz Timex, was a 1996 Seiko 7002-7000. When I couldn't stop looking at it throughout the day, I knew I needed more. Last month I came across a used Junkers 6060-5 and I knew I had to have it. It's a gorgeous watch and I highly recommend to anyone who is new to the watch world like me. Next on my list? A Kemmner Tonneau.

California Vacation

My first time traveling to California was a major success! I took a whole week off from work and was able to visit and see some amazing things. My girlfriend and her family let me join in on their family getaway, and I’m incredibly grateful they let me come with. Here’s a small snippet of the fun things we did and saw:
· Swam in the Pacific Ocean where I literally swept my girlfriend off her feet
· Ate some incredible food, such as Korean fusion tacos from the revolutionary food truck, Kogi (Also…shoutout to Love Coffee Bar for their incredible Honey Lavender Latte and Scott’s Cubano drink)
· Watched a Dodgers game where I coincidentally ran into one of my best friends from Illinois
· “Hiked” to the Hollywood sign and then walked through Hollywood Blvd
· Visited the beautiful Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks
· Zoomed through Venice Beach and Santa Monica on motorized rental scooters.

It was a long trip, but I wish it hadn’t ended. I can’t wait to make my way back to California to see more of what it has to offer.

Chicago Adventures

I’ve probably visited Chicago more this summer than I have in the previous 23 summers of my life combined. I’ve been hitting up some fantastic coffee spots, such as Intelligentsia in Millennium Park and Ipsento 606 in Logan Square. I highly recommend the mocha latte at Intelligentsia (made with their very own ganache) and the ipsento latte at Ipsento.

I’ve also been obsessed with The Chicago Diner, a vegetarian restaurant that serves some delicious vegan shakes and desserts. My go-to has been the mixed berry cheesecake, a refreshingly light, not too sweet pastry, which alone warrants the trip to Chicago.

My grandmother and two cousins came to visit this past week, and we enjoyed ourselves in the city, visiting the infamous bean in Millennium Park, as well as making our way to Chinatown and Logan Square. It was a beautiful day and I was glad to show my family around the beautiful city.

25th Wedding Anniversary

My good friend, Vishesh, invited me to photograph his parent’s 25th wedding anniversary. It was a great honor and something I couldn’t say no to. I’ve known him and his parents for ten years now and they’ve always been polite and amazing hosts for whenever my friends and I come over. The anniversary party was extremely fun and I got to test out some new lighting techniques. I was also able to connect with a couple guests about future photography gigs, so hopefully I’ll be able to post more soon!

Olympic National Park

In March, my good friend, Reed, and I met up with an old coworker of mine, Mike, in Seattle. Arriving at 11pm, we drove four hours straight to the westernmost point of Olympic National Park. It was a quick three day trip, but we kept busy, visiting the beautiful La Push beaches, hiking Mount Storm King, and meandering through the Hoh Rain Forest. I highly recommend the trip if you’re planning a vacation out west!

Battle of the Bamboo

Last month I had the privilege of photographing Battle of the Bamboo,  a cultural dance competition between universities in the Midwest showcasing traditional Filipino folk dance. It was fun evening and I made a couple new photography friends! At the end of the night, my alma mater, the University of Illinois took home first place! Congrats to everyone for the dedication put forth and amazing performances.

New York City

My family and I took a day trip to New York City late December, and we definitely made the most of it. We worked our way up the Empire State building, visited the Rockefeller Center, got lost in Times Square, and grabbed some delicious siao pao in Chinatown. I'm not usually the biggest city guy, but it was a day to remember.

Arizona | Utah Trip

I took a four day trip to Arizona + Utah and had the time of my life! The scenery during the day and the stars at night we're absolutely breathtaking. My friend and I first visited Sedona, where we took in the fresh air and relaxed while stargazing. The next day we traveled to Monument Valley, enjoyed a scenic drive, and ate some delicious Navajo frybread and chili. The following day, we hit up Zion National Park and hiked the dangerous, yet exhilarating Angel's Landing trail. Finally, we visited the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, where we hiked an amazing and beautiful eight mile trail. On the way to the airport, we also found a neat little cave hidden in Sedona, drove through the gorgeous Coconino National Forest, and hiked to the top of Phoenix. I recommend the trip if you have the time! Can't wait to take on more adventures next year!
