Buckhorn BBQ Fundraiser, Baptism + More

Friends of the Green Bay Trail - 2019 Buckthorn Barbeque Fundraiser

During work, I was contacted by my company’s Of Counsel attorney. She explained that every year she helps with a fundraiser for an environmental group. This year, things went awry and the group needed a last minute photographer. I stepped in to volunteer my time and I’m glad I did. The venue, Nichols Hall in the Chicago Botanical Garden, was beautiful, but provided me with a challenge. Lighting was not ideal and I had to improvise with how I’d exposure my shots. To add to the fun, there was another freelance photographer there and in my head I made it a competition. I wanted to come out with the better of the photos. Overall, I came out pleased with my shots and am glad I went to diversify my portfolio.

Dominic’s Baptism

Ashley’s nephew, Dominic, had his baptism this past weekend and the mom and dad asked me to take some shots during the ceremony. What’s great is that Ashley was asked to be Dominic’s godmother! He is the cutest little boy and I’m sure I’ll be taking pictures of him throughout his childhood.

Mama’s 81st Birthday, Halloween, & Golf

My mama celebrated her 81st birthday recently! Her best friend, Sally, visited from Maine to join the party. Their friendship is something to marvel at and I could only hope that my friends have a similar relationship at that age.

For Halloween, Ashley’s sister and husband hosted their annual party. The theme this year was island/tropical. There were some great costumes, including: Scuba Divers (Ashley and me), Hawaiian Punch, Lilo & Stitch, and a Pirate and Parakeet.

After picking up golf last year, I tried taking my game up a notch this summer. I regularly hit under 100 now and it’s become one of my favorite hobbies. In a few weeks I am travelling to New Mexico and I’ll be golfing down there. I can’t wait! Last weekend, I went golfing with Ashley’s cousin and my friend, Reed. I took a few shots trying to capture some of the fall color.
